Areas Of Practice
With regard to domestic relations, I always try to be mindful of the fact that divorce and the break-up of one’s family is among the most stressful life events an individual will face. I have practiced in this area for 17 years and understand the issues and sometimes dysfunctional family dynamics involved. Most importantly, I have extensive experience in the local court system and understand the unique practices and perspectives of each court. Although the legal system is designed to be adversarial, it is my belief that family law is an area that should be approached from mediation and focus on the best interests of the family unit. I do not take an all or nothing approach to family disputes, as this will only exacerbate the tensions that have brought the family to the court system. The goal of any family dispute ultimately should be to preserve family ties where appropriate while resolving disputes. Most importantly, preservation of the parent/child relationship is my goal as a family law counselor.

Criminal Law | Felonies | Misdemeanors | DUI and Traffic
As a criminal defense attorney, my approach is vastly different from that of a family law attorney. As a defense attorney, I will vigorously and zealously work to defend your constitutional rights as a defendant in the criminal system, whether defending felonies in Common Pleas Court or misdemeanors in Municipal Court. I have experience defending clients charged with all degrees of crimes, including the most serious felony charges. As a member of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, I have access to a network of experienced criminal defense attorneys statewide, who can provide assistance in other counties, if needed, and valuable support with defense strategy and procedure when unusual or difficult questions arise. Further, I defend juveniles’ charges with crimes in juvenile court.
Special Education Law | IEPs | Consult w/ school districts and service providers
The need for special education law practitioners is growing with the increase in diagnoses, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, bipolar disorder in children and a host of other syndromes that can require special educational accommodations for these children to receive a federally mandated, free, appropriate public education. It is often difficult for parents seeking legal advice and services for their special needs children to locate attorneys who practice in this area. I believe I offer a unique legal service with regard to advocacy for special needs children in the Erie, Ottawa and Huron county areas. I will assist the family and child in the Individual Education Planning process with members of the educational team; help identify and refer families to appropriate service providers; and assist parents challenge the decisions of school districts when appropriate. Appropriate and effective educational intervention is a key asset in helping a special needs child reach their full potential as a happy and productive adult. I have personal, as well as professional experience in this area, and am committed to advocating on behalf of these children.
